In this "Southwestern
            Portrait painting, "Eight Rain,"an original oil on
            panel, I was inspired to paint what the desert environment does
            to the face of it's inhabitants. in the case of this painting
            I wanted to show my impression of what I saw that the harsh environment
            there does to it's inhabitants. It ain't so easy to live there
            and I wanted to show it in a painting. It is breathtakingly beautiful
            in Monument Valley, but it takes it's toll on some of the faces
            that live there. Done from memory and imagination after having
            visited the Monument Valley area. Harsh environment or not, the
            Navaho are a beautiful people with an ancient heritage in Monument
            Valley, AZ.
