- In this Southwestern Still Life Oil Painting,
an original oil on panel, I was interested in creating an artwork
that reflected the designs and textures of the Southwestern Native
American objects from antiquity The basket is old Jicarilla,
the Indian pottery is Acoma, and the rug is navaho, which were
loaned to me from a private collection. I drew my inspiration
for the imaginary setting from living in and around ancient adobe
dwellings . The ancient Indians must have had the luxury of enough
time to have developed their craft to such a state of fine art.
This was the first painting that I painted the
rug with a viewable warp and weive, a feit not for a begining
artist or for some one that cannot draw freehanded with geometeric
accuracy.
